Monterrey Mexico: AMI Automation is pleased to announce the successful installation and factory acceptance of their latest generation DigitARC™ PX3 and SmartARC™ EAF regulation controls on SDI Columbia City’s North EAF. The goal of this project was to improve the overall performance of their single bucket charge EAF with a specific emphasis to reduce graphite electrode consumption.
SDI installed AMI’s latest generation DigitARC™ PX3 Arc Regulator and its SmartARC™ controls along with some customized HMI screens to allow the EAF operators to work directly in harmony with the SmartARC’s advanced AI (Artificial Intelligence) technology that controls the EAF’s overall energy input. The results were very positive, and SDI reduced their graphite electrode consumption on the North EAF by 17% (Seventeen percent!) from the prior very competitive baseline.
With this positive result, SDI is getting ready to install the same technology on their second EAF in September. Stephan Ferency – SDI Manager said: “We are very pleased with the performance of the system and the ongoing service and collaboration provided by AMI. This user-friendly approach allowed our operators to use AMI’s advanced technology to achieve new levels of performance on our EAF”.
